About the city

Interesting in New Orleans

New Orleans is still resuscitating from the horrible shock caused by the hurricane Katrina. But restoration of the city came quickly and the city is slowly back to its old self.

The French Quarter, birthplace of jazz music, is up and running again, and most definitely a must-see attraction for its splendid French and Spanish colonial architecture. These neighborhoods have a distinct style unlike anything seen elsewhere in the United States, and even if that’s not your thing, it would be remiss not to take it in while visiting the city. There are lots of themed tours available in New Orleans, that celebrate facets of the unique culture of the town, for instance voodoo, jazz or the creole mix culture that arose in the area.

Another option is taking a riverboat cruise down the Mississippi river. Some have the whole package with live music and local foods; others are down-to-earth ferries. Either way, you’re sure to have a lively experience.
Outside the city, the swamplands begin and they’re possibly as iconic as the city itself. Take a tour of the Jean Lafitte Nature Preserve in a hydrofoil to see alligators and other wildlife up close.
